Anything for my lady, ( he says, all fake formal and smiling a bit. but he sobers quickly after the kiss, his expression falling to quite serious. something's obviously weighing on his mind. )

What is it? [ even if she didn't know how to read him so well, he isn't being particularly subtle about the fact that there's something on his mind right now. ]

( he takes a breath, bracing. ) Did you hear about the Doctor?

[ uh oh. ]

What is it, Rory? Tell me.

[expect]

( he hesitates — not out of a desire to shelter her or keep it from her, but because saying the words, aloud… ) Whale killed him.

He what?

[ say that this is a bad joke. ]

[expect]

( he just nods. he did. there's nothing else he can say, or do. )

[ dragging a hand over her face. ] Damn.

When he was mad, obviously. He texted me to apologise. ( he allows some of his anger to show, and leans back against the gate. he knows, he knows it wasn't whale's fault. but. )

He didn't tell me.

[ and she's angry, too. trying to kill her is one thing — actually killing the doctor is quite another. ]

Probably thought you'd be cross enough already. ( it's almost conversational; he reaches out with his hand to take hers, seeing her angry — and expecting it — but wanting to try and keep her from storming off in revenge. )

[ but she doesn't try to wrench her hand away ]

You're really scary when you're cross. ( he can kind of understand whale not wanting to inflict the wrath of amy pond is all he's saying. )

The Doctor's fine now.

[ but she doesn't really mean it — she's just angry and worried and — dragging in a deep breath. ]

( he smiles — quick and tentative and gone just as fast. ) He is. I - I dunno, it's different dying here.

Like Whale, I suppose. ( he hadn't met anyone like that at the time, though. lucky him. )

Sorry? ( he frowns. he hadn't heard about that one. maybe it's not surprising, since they're not exactly buddies, but… )

He died, too. And threatened me.

[ he was bloody terrifying, too. ]

Great. ( sounding a bit taken aback and worried — but he frowns just as fast, because if there is one thing that is not at all, ever, okay, it is amy being threatened or hurt. )

's all right. He didn't even try to kill me. [ she can deal with being threatened a little better than she can with anyone actually trying to kill her. ]

That doesn't make me feel a lot better. ( he crosses his arms. he knows that if she doesn't think it's a big deal, he shouldn't press it, but… )
